Founded in 1989 by a group of Wakefield residents, WEF’s mission is to provide a vehicle for the community to support, acknowledge and promote academic excellence in the Wakefield Public Schools. With the generosity of local businesses and community members, WEF has awarded over $400,000 in grants since 1989.
Why support WEF?
With WEF grant support, teachers are able to provide all Wakefield public school students supplemental education which is innovative and enriching, and complements the school-based curriculum.
Due to ever tightening school budgets and competing priorities for precious town funds, WEF depends upon the support of its local community residents and businesses to sustain the annual grant program.
How does WEF operate?
WEF is a 501c(3) non-profit organization, run entirely by volunteers.
WEF operates independently from the Wakefield Public Schools but works collaboratively with school leadership to ensure its mission and the needs of the system are in alignment.
WEF provides financial support for enrichment education for all Wakefield students through an annual competitive grant process for teachers and administrators in the Wakefield Public Schools.
WEF funding is supported by donations from residents, businesses and civic organizations.
